This August, we are delighted to be curating Postcards from Louth - a free community project for all the family to enjoy, celebrating our beautiful town, encouraging reading and writing and bringing joy to faraway friends and relatives who will receive a postcard from their loved one!

Each Saturday in August - from the 8th until the 29th - you can pop into the gallery anytime between 10.00 and 4.00 to create your own Postcard from Louth before posting it to a loved one in our special post box.

The project was inspired by gallery artist, Don Mackenzie, who for over 30 years, sketched a scene on a blank postcard from wherever he was in the world and sent it to his mom in Louth.  The collection will be on display in the gallery to inspire others.

SPECIAL CHILDREN'S WEEKEND

On 15-16 August we will be running a weekend of drop-in, tutor-led sessions for children at the gallery where they can set to work writing and illustrating their very own masterpiece. All postcards will be exhibited in the gallery before being posted on to their recipient - with prizes for children’s entries judged by our panel of artists.

How the Project Works

•  Pick Your Canvas: Choose a blank card or select an outline drawing of a Louth landmark created by our resident gallery artists.
• Get Creative: Colour in the outline or draw your own special image of the town on the blank card.
• Write Your Message: Practice your handwriting and reading by composing a personal message on the back of the card to someone you care about (a granny, a relative abroad, or a faraway friend!).
• The Postbox: Drop your finished masterpiece into our giant Postbox located at the gallery. We will proudly display your card in our pop-up exhibition before putting a stamp on it and mailing it to your chosen recipient
