Alex Grant

When Alex applied for the Billboard Showcase, he’d recently gone freelance to pursue his passion for photography after working for several years in social media and marketing. Alex wants to help small businesses make a big impact through visual storytelling and we recognised his talents for photography and graphic design. 

Working with Ted Stanley and Jessie Johnson as mentors, Alex attended a workshop to develop his video skills and he also gained experience working in the editing suite at Hammond House Productions. He used this training and experience to produce a video of a tour of Cleethorpes to use in his showreel. Alex is proficient in drone photography and worked alongside Dan Burks to film footage of Eloise Linton’s circus showreel using his drone expertise. 

As part of his time on the Billboard showcase Alex has secured paid freelance work on projects where he could use in established skills in graphic design and social media marketing to build his portfolio and gain experience of working directly with clients. This included 1:1 social media training sessions for the Billboard artists, helping provide bespoke guidance to anyone lacking skills and confidence online. Also, the creation of visuals for the Lloyd Cars exhibition in September, run by Hammond House, a social media campaign for the ‘Secrets’ theme for the LitFest 2026, a TikTok channel for The Heritage Channel and a launch video for ‘Landmarks and Legends’ online amongst other commissions. 

Since coming onto the Billboard, Alex has also received external commissions of his own including photography for Capacity Buildings and website creation for Jessica Johnson along with time spent shadowing other photographers to help refine his artistic style. Alex embraces all of the networking and funding opportunities which come his way and has become a valuable member of the Hammond House production team. 

‘Through Billboard I have met a lot of interesting people and have been able to flex my talents in lots of different ways,’ says Alex. ‘I’ve also found work outside of the Billboard and through the programme I have been able to reach out and find more clients.

Joining the Billboard has helped to develop my confidence, connect with like-minded creatives and get out there more. Working on Eloise’s showreel on the beach was a real highlight capturing drone footage and helping on her behind the scenes video. I have learn a lot of skills for my own portfolio and it’s been a great way of networking with potential friends and customers.’
